Die hard surfers might get a bit upset with this new product. Over the past years we have seen massive growth in the power surfboard market. Along with Waterwolf, Aquila, and Radinn surfboards, the German designed ‘Lampuga’ is added to the list.
The Lampuga is more than a surfboard. It allows for wave cruising, drifting, or just relaxing. It’s made of a lightweight carbon-fibre composite and its powerful electric jet drive enables it to reach high velocities, making it super fast just like the marine creature that shares its name; the dolphin fish, one of the fastest fish in the world.
The electric jet propulsion system is quiet so it won’t disturb animals or people. Due to its light weight, it is easy to transport and since it uses batteries, any dangers involved with liquid based fuels is eliminated. The Lampuga is controlled by a steering belt which also carries the accelerator throttle. It is attached to the bow of the board, providing a secure connection and full control. If you happen to lose control, an automated emergency stop mechanism will ensure that the power to the engine is shut off instantaneously.
The engine of the surfboard delivers 15 hp directly to the water. The board is 8’5” long, 2’7” wide and weighs only 86 pounds. It can reach speeds of up to 32 mph. On a full charge the battery can last about 20-35 minutes. Battery duration, speed and range depend on various factors. The Lampuga can be charged at any standard household power outlet. Priced at $17,400, Lampuga is currently being displayed at the Dusselfdorf Boat Show. It has set up a dealership network in various European countries and the US
