One thing is for sure when it comes to the iPhone, you can find an accessory for just about anything you want to do with the smartphone. Case-in-point is a new product from a company called Masimo. The device is called the iSpO2 and is a pulse oximeter promising hospital quality blood-oxygen level measurements.
The amount of oxygen dissolved in your blood is a key metric for people with breathing problems such as cystic fibrosis, COPD, or other conditions. Many pulse oximeters on the market are very expensive and bulky. Many of the consumer models also lack the ability to store readings to compare later or share with a doctor.
This new iPhone pulse oximeter works in conjunction with an app and can store your readings as well as export them to a file to share with doctors or other applications. It can also track pulse rate and Perfusion Index (PI) and even works when you’re moving around. Keep in mind that the hardware accessory plugs into the 30-pin port of the iPhone meaning it won’t work directly with the iPhone 5′s Lightning port. It’s unclear if it will work using the adapter Apple offers for the iPhone 5 and older accessories, so you should inquire before purchasing
